How to Store Coffee

There are many suggested ways to save different coffee to maintain freshness. One method suggested is to put ground coffee or coffee beans in the freezer. Is storing coffee in the freezer a good way to maintain freshness? Let's look at the pros and cons.

Freezing has been used for centuries as a way to extend the life of many foods. A diverse selection of food can be frozen. Bread, meat, fruits, vegetables and even butter can be successfully stored in your freezer. Freezing even maintain a lot of vitamins and nutritional value of various foods. Coffee, however, not as a possible candidate for storage in the freezer.

Coffee has four main enemies of freshness: air, heat, light and moisture. At first, the freezing point does not seem to contain much to offend the enemy. However, appearances can be deceiving.

Coffee beans have been roasted in order to enhance the flavor. Nuts are also porous. Unfortunately the freezer can contain other food that smells. Nuts porous can absorb flavors from many other frozen foods. Coffee flavor can be fun, but no one wants to drink coffee seafood or garlic flavor

Humidity can also be absorbed by the coffee beans. Humidity can cause damage and loss of flavor. The more often you get a coffee from the freezer and put it back in, more water vapor absorption takes place into the beans. If you really need to freeze the coffee because you have a big advantage you want to stay, only frozen once. The more you take it in and out of the freezer, the more damage you do.

Freezing also breaks down the oil in the seeds. Oil contributes to the taste of coffee. Breaking down the oils means relieving, and let's face it, most of a cup of good coffee is the taste.

When it comes down to it, freezing is not the best way to store your coffee. Storing coffee is stored in a container, cool and dry, airtight away from light. Freezing coffee is possible, and the best if you only frozen once. The resulting loss of taste and quality of recurrent clotting makes it a method of storage to stay away from. Your best bet is to buy only enough coffee beans or ground to provide you as long as 1-2 weeks. Enjoying coffee in its fresh!
